For seventy years, the Myer Christmas Windows have been a Melbourne institution, an iconic tradition that’s brought joy to millions of visitors each festive season.
In partnership with Myer, The LEGO Group, and the team at Stage One, The Brickman team helped bring A Playful LEGO Christmas to life, a festive story told through LEGO bricks, imagination, and a little Christmas magic.
As proud Melburnians, we grew up visiting these very windows, pressing our faces to the glass to see tiny worlds of movement, colour, and imagination. To now stand on the other side of the glass, helping craft this year’s story in LEGO form, feels like a true full-circle moment.
Built from nearly 500,000 LEGO bricks, this year’s windows follow a child’s Christmas letter as it travels from a Melbourne post office all the way to Santa’s North Pole Workshop, before returning home on Christmas Eve in a dazzling sleigh ride across the Melbourne skyline.
After months of design and collaboration across global teams, The Brickman workshop brought the story to life, crafting over 220 LEGO brick models across the six feature windows.
Recreating the heart of Christmas production, Santa’s Workshop became our largest window, featuring over 60 individual builds, from toy ducks and dolls to miniature trains. The variety of bricks and colours here was huge, from smooth tiles for painted toy finishes to Tan elements that mimic handcrafted wooden toys along the production line.
No workshop is complete without a finishing touch, the Wrap-O-Matic! A one-of-a-kind gift-wrapping machine that whirs, spins, and sends toys down the line, coming out fully wrapped and ready for Santa’s sleigh. Thanks to the clever crew at Stage One, the inner mechanics came to life with working belts and moving parts.
In true Aussie spirit, Christmas Eve Over Melbourne window, soaring above our skyline, Santa’s sleigh ride home was built entirely from LEGO bricks. Our builders even recreated Melbourne’s most loved landmarks, from the MCG to the Sydney Myer Music Bowl, where over 400 LEGO minifigs were used for the renowned Carols by Candlelight event.
Lastly, no Brickman project would be complete without a few hidden surprises! Making her Australian debut, keep an eye out for Cataclaws, secretly tucked into every window. This furry little troublemaker might be napping in the mailroom, hiding behind a present stack, or hitching a ride in Santa’s sleigh!
