Throwback Thursday: LEGO® Brick Ferrari

Created on June 29, 2017 8:59 am

This week we’re throwing back to probably Ryan’s coolest LEGO® models ever- his 1/4 scale 1961 Ferrari 250GT California! The car features in Ryan’s favourite ever movie, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and he’s wanted one ever since, but at over $10 million each, he figured building one out of LEGO® bricks will be the closest he’ll ever come to having one!

His first go at building the car was actually way back before he became a LEGO Certified Professional when he built the scene from the movie when they crash the car!

In researching the real cars Ryan discovered that these cars were all slightly different to each other, in fact, each one was hand-made to order for specific customers and hence some were longer than others, some had different seats, others had different height controls.

Ryan ended up finding online a Canadian who owned one of the rare cars and after talking the idea through he sent Ryan through a tonne of photos to base his LEGO version off.

The final model features some custom printed Ferrari logo tiles for the bonnet and the steering wheel as well as a fully detailed interior.

The hardest part of the model was actually getting the soft, flowing compound curves of the car’s chassis right!

The model now travels as part of our Brickman Experience show and is on a rotating showroom-style turntable so you can see this beautiful piece of auto-engineering from every angle!
