Throwback Thursday: LEGO® brick Ming Vase
For this week’s Throwback Thursday we’re looking at a very different type of model – a model Ryan had to build live!
Ryan was exhibiting a few of his big models at the Brisbane Ekka show in 2012 and they wanted Ryan to build something while he was there, so he chose to build a Chinese Ming Vase.
It proved to be quite the challenge, being a combination of both mosaic and sculpture but as with all builds, it all comes down to planning! Ryan started by getting the shape right by building a vase in plain white that he could copy the final vase from.
After that he built the painted dragon & flower design flat using white and blue with plates for the fine shapes and details. Then came the hard part- combining the two! Ryan re-built the vase shape, adding in the design as he went up, layer by layer.
The final result is a stunning recreation of a Ming Vase that is currently touring with our Brickman Experience Show. Little did Ryan realise that a few years later he would have to re build the Ming Vase live on Chinese TV!
